We idealize the ancient kingdom of Angkor Wat and the golden age of artists like Sinn Sisamouth and Ros Serey Sothea. But why do we always romanticize? Because these great periods were followed by decline and loss—they turned to ash.
Ashes to Ashes challenges this notion.
As we experience our own renaissance, I ask: how do we sustain it without repeating the cycles of history? How do we honor the contributions of our past while shaping what the Khmer identity can look like today and in the future?
This is a call to embrace the ashes. Only when we come to spiritual terms with our losses can we truly learn, grow, and evolve.
Ashes to Ashes is more than a campaign for a hoodie. It represents a philosophical shift, requiring deep inner work and realizations. The realization that these ashes, too, can be beautiful—if we allow them to be.
